About Mrs. Curry
Welcome! I'm so glad you are taking the time to look around my webpage. This is my third year teaching at Wilson Elementary. I received my B.S. from MTSU in Elementary Education K-6. I love watching children grow and change through their learning experiences that they have at school. When I am not teaching, I love to travel with my husband and children. We also have our hands full with two dogs. Thank you for sharing your child with us at Wilson. We are going to have a fabulous year!

My most memorable years of school stand out in my mind due to their common attributes: the teacher would present subjects that caught my interest, organized lessons with hands-on explorations, guided me through difficult topics, and made sure the information was relevant. These role models have influenced my own approach to teaching: I believe students are better learners when the information is given in a creative way and shown exactly what is expected. Learning doesn’t necessarily come from staring up at the teacher and working a few problems on the board. Learning should be creative by using different resources. As a teacher, I should know the demographics of my students and be able to present topics that are relevant to their life experiences and development of their schema.
My personal goal for my future classroom is to challenge students and watch them grow to their full potential. I want to take students at different levels and see them develop together for the betterment of each individual. Therefore, group work is the key to having a successful class and is something I value, especially with older students. The impact of group work, when students help fellow students, changes each person and transforms the atmosphere of the class as a whole. I also want to create a classroom that is a safe learning environment for all. If students do not feel safe in my classroom, whether it is emotionally, physically, or socially, their defense systems will go up and learning will greatly decrease, if not shut down all together. It is important to me that my students, as well as their parents, other teachers, administrators, and people in the community, see me as someone they can approach, who will be fair and nondiscriminatory. |
